Android Users Can Unplug and Reconnect

A new app for Android device users lets you unplug and go off the grid for a few days, then reconnect based on some pre-defined parameters. While offline you can have pre-scheduled updates and messages sent and still enjoy your down time. With the new app – which is available free of charge and free of any advertising –Android users can:
  • Schedule unplugging time in advance. At the scheduled time, your smartphone will switch to silent, vibrate, call reject or airplane mode, depending on your selection.
  • Generate an automatic text message when the phone is in “call reject” mode – such as “I’m taking ‘me’ time” – so anyone calling your phone will know you’re taking a break from technology.
  • Automatically post status updates to Facebook and Twitter, should you choose to tell your friends how you’re spending your unplugging time and the duration of the break.
  • Stop worrying about forgetting to reset your phone to ring mode after unplugging time is over – the new app automatically does it for you.
  • Get instant reminders of upcoming breaks from technology that you have scheduled.
The app is available in the Android Marketplace or at Unplug and Reconnect (http://unplugreconnect.com/ur-resources).

e-book - Mobile Apps - Native or Web?

You probably have a plan to build a mobile app, but you've struggled with the basic question - Should I build it using open web standards such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, or should I build it as a native app for the devices I want to target?

This is a difficult question and one that requires considerable thought and analysis. To help you wade through the pros and cons, iPadCTO has created this comprehensive list of issues and provided a pros-cons template to quickly begin to quantify your requirements. At the outset, it is important to say that this is not a debate about which approach, native or web, should win in the marketplace. Rather, it is far more sensible to debate on how positive and negative attributes of a particular development strategy will unfold in the context of a specific business requirement. As such, this eBook will focus on an objective to first establish a context, and then apply sensible and rational arguments, either for or against web or native apps.

Along with this free eBook you will also receive a free email newsletter that provides timely guidance concerning iPad in the enterprise direct to your inbox.
